James Bonwick
III. A Checklist of His Articles and Contributions

In a previous issue of this Journal (No. 11, April 1973) I described some of Bonwick's unlisted publications; here I list details of articles which appeared in serials, encyclopaedias and the like. What follows is a chronological list of articles by Bonwick which I have been able to discover from a fairly exhaustive search, but as Bonwick was such an extensive writer I make no claim to it being complete.
Where applicable I have shown Pescott's number as given in his James Bonwick … with a bibliography of his writings (Melbourne, 1939), or Ferguson's number of some volumes listed by him. I have indicated those items which I have not seen myself.

I. Towards A Bibliography — Addendum

The following previously unlisted items have been located:
  • The Brabourne Collection of Sir Joseph Banks' Letters, purchased by Sir Saul Samuel, for the New South Government Digest of Contents, (London, 1884). 15 pp.
  • Archives Authority N.S.W. (Colonial Secretary, Letters received, special bundle 4/871.3).
  • The signature J. B. appears in print at the foot of p. 15. After the papers arrived in Sydney late in 1884 they were again read through and an anonymous Brabourne Papers … A pamphlet containing a summary of the contents of these important papers (Sydney, Government Printer, 1886) (F 7340) was published. An article by R. F. Doust, “James Bonwick, Archivist of New South Wales”, Archives and Manuscripts, 3 (1969), pp. 9–15, gives full details of Bonwick's work on these papers, and drew my attention to this item.
