John Barnes is a reader of Tennyson's poetry.
Sandra Burt is a Librarian in the La Trobe Australian Manuscripts Collection. She has been a volunteer for the Friends of the State Library and the Foundation since 1995, firstly as Secretary to the Friends and, since 1998, as assistant to the editor of The La Trobe Journal.
Shane Carmody is Director, Collections and Services, at the State Library of Victoria. Descended from Irish convicts, poor selectors and share dairy- farmers he, like Ned Kelly, has never been to Ireland.
Des Cowley is the Rare Printed Collections Manager, State Library of Victoria. His article ‘Women's Work: Illustrating the Natural Wonders of the Colonies’ appeared in The La Trobe Journal No. 69.
Christine Downer, who is now resident in Ireland, was for many years Picture Librarian at the State Library of Victoria.
Ann Galbally is now a Professorial Associate at the University of Melbourne, where until 2003 she was Associate Professor and Reader, teaching nineteenth- and twentieth-century French, English and Australian art. She has published monographs on Arthur Streeton, Frederick McCubbin and John Peter Russell, biographies of Redmond Barry (1995) and Charles Condor (2002), and The Collections of the National Gallery of Victoria (1987).
Brian Hubber, now Curator at the Geelong Gallery, was previously the Rare Books Librarian at the State Library of Victoria, with a special interest in Australian bibliography and history of the book. His current project is a bibliography of Patrick White, to be published by Quiddlers Press and Oak Knoll later in 2004.
Wallace Kirsop is Director of the Centre for the Study of the Book at Monash University. One of the original Friends of the La Trobe Library, he has been a contributor to this journal since 1973. The text of his 1990 Redmond Barry Lecture was published in the La Trobe Library Journal no. 46 in 1991.
Richard Overell is the Rare Books Librarian at Monash University Library. From 1981 to 1988 he was a Librarian in the La Trobe section of the State Library of Victoria.
Kenneth W. Park is Curator of Collections at Wesley College. He is a lecturer with Australian Study Abroad, and has conducted many walking tours of Melbourne, usually with a visit to the State Library and the crests under the Portico. He is passionate about the history of Melbourne and the stories of its founders.
John H. Phillips, AC, was Chief Justice of Victoria from 1991 to 2003. He is presently Provost of the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre at Victoria University.
R.J.W.Selleck is an Emeritus Professor of Monash University and a Professorial Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Melbourne. A Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences of Australia, he has contributed widely to study of English and Australian educational and social history. In 2003 he published The Shop, The University of Melbourne 1850–1939 and, with Stuart Macintyre, A Short History of the University of Melbourne.
The State Library of Victoria Foundation
was established in 1994 to raise funds to support the State Library of Victoria. It encourages and promotes private philanthropy and corporate sponsorship for State Library projects, including: preservation of Victoria's cultural heritage, conservation of valuable collections, acquisition of items of historical significance, and delivery of educational programs and research services to the community.
